The more than 7,000 islands in this vast archipelago east of Vietnam between the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea offered a stunning range of natural gifts and splendors. A former colony of Spain ceded to the United States after the Spanish-American War. The islands were occupied by the Japanese during World War II, but democracy thrives today.

Sitting astride a global typhoon belt, the Philippine islands typically endure as many as a half dozen cyclonic storm a year. Poverty and deforestation mar the islands’ many charms.

Due to poverty and economic problems of many people, many of them going to the province and live there. The most common and easily available form of living is to become a fisherman. Today, there are many people living in small islet like we can see in the picture because of that situation. Most of them are an ordinary fisherman as their form of livelihood. Others engage in fish culture and farming Gozo.

When you are traveling going to Tagbilaran City, Bohol, you will notice or see some islet full of many small houses, occupied by many people. The common problem they encounter living in an islet is the drinking water. Their water source is from the mainland. They pay for P20 pesos per gallon from a merchant who supplied water for them. The water use for cooking and washing is from the rain or from the sea.

As you can see, their lifestyle is simple, but you may envy the beauty of the island they are living in. They don’t even know that they are living in a place like a paradise. If you are an adventurer type individual, you may be able to visit the islet’s settler of the Philippine Islands.
