Mactan Blue Reef Resort Review

By admin On April 15, 2010 Under Philippine Islands Beaches

What other people had to say about Mactan Blue Reef Resort. This is a review:

Strangest Hotel Ever by; grafil – Canadian

I stayed here for three nights. In another room was my Canadian friend, and his Filipiina fiance and her infant daughter.

The rooms themselves were good value at PHP 2200 – 2400 per night. Clean, nice style, with bar sink and minibar, small balcony with ocean view, good aircon, TV, and spacious hot shower. The staff told me the hotel was 3 years old. There is wifi in the lobby and garden area only.

The hotel is fronted with a small beachside water park, with concrete water slides, hammocks and swings over the water, and many “cottages” (roofed tables, a few with cooking grills) on concrete jetties flanking the small and shallow beach. As is typical for the Philippines, these facilities are dirty and not in very good shape. The water slides need pressure washing and painting, and the cottages and beach need more cleaning. There is a lawn and sandy area for small children to play, which were appreciated. This park mostly caters to local day visitors, youths and families, and is open 24 hours. The sound of karaoke is incessant. Many many flies.

I am a 50 year old Canadian male and have done some traveling. What made this the strangest hotel of any I have ever stayed in?

- you do not go through the front gates or canopied entrance. It is locked and unfinished. After driving through a parking lot so bumpy that it almost left our taxi aground, you step through a very tiny security gate in a fence on the side, where you are checked by an armed guard. The feeling is distinctly like entering a prison. Read full review
