Limasawa Island, Southern Leyte

Limasawa island is a 6th class municipality of the same name in the province of Southern Leyte, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, which has a population of 5831 inhabitants according to the census of 2000, has 1108 households. It lies south of Leyte, in the Sea of Mindanao. The island is about 10 kms from north to south.
Limasawa is politically subdivided into 6 barangays.

Limasawa Island is a popular spot for divers and a number of great dive sites, from the deck of Zach deep for divers to deep canyons and serpents of Sea Snake Shoal. There are plenty of dive companies on the island to organize trips that can last from one hour to half a day or more.
Even if you’re not diving, Limasawa Island is a nice place to relax for a while. The beach of powdery white sand is a great place for sunbathing, and there are a number of beach bars to enjoy a cocktail while the sun sets.
There are plenty of accommodations in Limasawa Island, ranging from wooden beach huts style stations. Many people end up spending several days on the island, even though they are simply planned to visit for a day.

How to get there?
Limasawa island can be reached from Tacloban, which has its own airport with regular flights arriving from Manila (1 hour). There are regular buses to Tacloban from most major towns and cities in the Philippines like Manila (20 hours), Catbalogan (3 hours), Calbayog (4 hours) and Allen (6 hours). Once in Tacloban, it is a short ferry ride from the port of Leyte to Limasawa.
Another option: International flights arrive in Cebu. From here domestic flights to Ormoc in Leyte or ship to various ports on the island of Leyte. The dive resort arranged transportation from the port or airport.
Another information: As this is an interaction of all you need good scuba diving skills and strong enough to keep up with the whale shark. Strobes are not allowed to photograph the animals.

Limasawa an island to the south is part of the province where the first Christian mass was held and is said to be the birthplace of in the . It forms an important part of the inter-island transportation system of the country with ferries transporting people and goods between and in . The difficulty of managing the entire island from the main city suggested the need to separate the island into two provinces..At first there was a general movement for a Western Leyte and soon after many prominent men and leaders rallied behind the movement.
