Kris has showbiz debts to pay

By now, it has become clear being an ABS-CBN star is Kris Aquino’s best asset. It’s also proving to be her worst liability. Besides being National Hero Ninoy Aquino and Cory Aquino’s daughter, Kris and Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, Jr. have not done anything substantial to help the country. That’s why Kris efforts at helping the Typhoon Ondoy flood victims have been highly suspect. They say Noynoy’s biggest plus is not being indebted to big business. ABS-CBN is not big business?

Even if the campaign period is several months away, it has become clear Kris has become the butt of attacks from entertainment journalists who were victims of her power play at ABS-CBN. From no-names to big names, they are writing about her worst excesses and being a liability to Sen. Noynoy’s presidential bid. True, many showbiz personalities are willing to support her but not the many entertainment media members of who she has directly or indirectly offended.

Where before she had to be pleased, the tables are turned. Now she has to do the pleasing if she wants Noynoy to win. For sure, election is a great equalizer like natural calamities. There’s no such thing as “children of gods.” Everybody turn slaves of devils.

Since Kris is incapable of making peace with her enemies or even if she makes the effort she still becomes suspect kiss, such as when she kissed and made up with Dr.Victoria Belo, it’s probably best for Noynoy to put her on the sidelines. There, she can use her perceived powers more effectively. Voters are intelligent. We recognize the frequent use of yellow (Charo and Cory’s yellow tee at the Pangasinan relief aid, the Typhoon Ondoy relief bags of Sagip Kapamilya are yellow), turning “SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon)” into “SNNN (Showbiz News ni Noynoy),” among other telltale signs.

For sure, there is a big difference between the implementation of ABS-CBN’s no unpaid political content rule between its Television Entertainment and News & Current Affairs. The former tolerates Kris while the latter discourages it. Such preferential treatment greatly affects ABS-CBN’s praiseworthy clean election campaign. The earlier ABS-CBN removes the difference, the earlier its campaign becomes credible. If not, it becomes obvious it is tolerating the difference for its own sake.
