Iza Calzado accidentally exposes her boyfriend

It’s really hard to keep secrets in showbiz, especially if the public knows you have one.

Iza Calzado had proven this last Thursday (August 27), at the birthday bash of her friend, Ogie Alcasid, in Ayala Hillside Estates Clubhouse, Quezon City. She thought it was going to be an intimate gathering, so she decided to bring her non-showbiz boyfriend. But upon arriving, she instantly spotted the TV crew rushing to greet her.

“Bakit may press?!,” asked the baffled Kapuso actress.

The guy beside her was hastily ushered inside, while Iza avoided the cameras, and hopped from one table to table to say hi to the people she knows. After a few minutes, she sat down beside her boyfriend, who’s known in the drive-in hotel business.

Just before leaving, an apologetic Iza faced the press, “Pasensiya na po, sabi ko po kay Kuya Ogie… Excited akong ipakilala siya kay Kuya Ogie, kasi fan siya ni Yaya and Angelina, and surprise…Happy birthday to me!”

She was still at a loss for words, and she politely requested the media not put so much hype on it, “Mahiyain, hindi naman siya ano…Mahiyain lang…” Iza described her non-showbiz boyfriend.

She added, “’Wag na natin masyadong sanayin, minsan lang ito.”

Her reluctance to divulge more details about her love life was brought about by her previous experience. When she and Jerry Garcia broke up, showbiz hosts and writers had persistently prodded her to reveal the real score.

In her Showbiz Central interview last August 23, she pleaded, “Sorry if I’ll keep that to myself or between us na lang. Gusto ko sana na this time around, if I’m in the relationship, I want to keep it as private as I can.”

Back to the “accidental” exposure of the current love of her life, she couldn’t tell yet his reaction. “Malalaman ko pa lang,” she said. But offhand, “natatawa lang naman siya…”

She abruptly ended the interview by saying, “Kung yung mga wish namin ay ‘wag naman pag-usapan…Salamat po, yun lang. Salamat po.”

While the crews of Startalk, Showbiz Central, 24 Oras’s “Chika Minute,” and the representative of YES! Magazine and PEP were holding the interview, Ogie—who was then onstage—blurted, “Kawawa naman si Iza, sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Walang press.’” – Karen A. Pagsolingan, PEP
