Siquijor is an island province of the Philippines located in the central Visayas. Its capital is the municipality also named Siquijor. Northwest of Siquijor are Cebu and Negros, in the northeast is Bohol and south through the Bohol Sea is Mindanao.

Siquijor is famous for being a mystical island, said to be full of shamans, witches and natural phenomena. This belief gives an attraction for travelers the most exciting adventure This picturesque island not only gives you an exciting adventure, but also a relaxing holiday because of their-mostly-undisturbed beaches and reef that are good for snorkeling and diving adventures as well as virgin forests for hiking and trips.

This island was previously called “Island of Fire” or “Island del fuego” by the Spaniards. During their exploration, they saw an island that gave off the strange glow which hypnotized them to come. The flashes came from a large number of fireflies that sheltered in the molave trees on the island. This is one explanation why it is recognized as a mystical island full of mysterious attracting stories.

Directions to get there:

Siquijor has three ports that are capable of the passenger ships and cargo service. One can get there by around 3 points: Dumaguete, Cebu and Bohol. Some companies offer regular ferry services to and from Siquijor. The trip from Dumaguete to Siquijor takes about 45 minutes, while Bohol to Siquijor takes about three hours. No direct flights available on the island because they have no airport facilities.

Cantabon Cave – an underground cave about 300 meters long and rises 10 meters wide. Remarkable formations of stalactites and stalagmites can be found there, which some geologists believed it was important to study because of the age of the land. It was discovered in 1985, which later became one of the Siquijor main attractions that cavers, adventure travelers and the like. The adventure of caving is not too difficult for intermediate caver.

Cambugahay WaterFalls – is a small cascading multiple layers waterfall located 2 kms north of the Lazi town. It offers very clean, warm water from natural sources, small forests, and watersheds. A nice refreshing dip and swim will be an added experience.

Mt. Bandilaan National Park – is situated in the center of the province. Rising of about 557 meters at its highest point and 244 hectare of artificial forest cover the former Reforestation Project and offers breathtaking views of the land below. You can find here  the butterfly sanctuary, one of the biggest butterflies in Asia. This is the best place for hiking and mountain trekking adventure.

Capilay Spring Park – a natural spring transformed into a swimming pool. Located in the heart of the of San Juan town. This is open and has free use to the public.

Guiwanon Spring Park – A complex of wooden bridges and nipa huts nestled above the shallow-water waves that feed the fertile ground of the mangroves. It is also a sanctuary of different marine habitats.

Tulapos Marine Sanctuary – thought about as the oldest existing sanctuary in the province. Abundant species of fish, corals and other marine life.

Balete enchanted tree – its mysterious profile created by hundreds of roots and vines hanging down, a tree of 400 years old is believed to be haunted. A lovely tree is not only a site to behold, but also provides water to its inhabitants.

Church and Covent of St.Isidro – reputed to be the largest and among the oldest in the country, which has been declared a historic monument by the Philippine Historical Commission.

Other interesting sites to visit are the San Juan de Capilay Lake, Enrique Villanueva Cave, San Juan Cave, Maria Cave, Cambasia Cave, Boljo Cave, and Canghunog-hunog and Tagmanocan Cave.
