Dalandan Fruits

Small, standing trees with stems smooth, greenish white, with spinescent thorns. The leaves are oblong to subelliptic, about 4 cm wide to 10 cm long, with narrowly winged petioles.


The flowers are white, solitary or few grouped, mild, and increasing the axils of the leaves upward. The fruit is spherical, of 5-9 cm in diameter, skin orange red and tight, partitions inside yellow juice sacs. This fruit is commonly found throughout Philippines.

Minty dalandan shake

When in season, dalandan, our local orange, can be purchased for only 15 pesos a kilo. Juice as much as you can and freeze in ice cubes. It is a healthy and inexpensive way to cool off when the sun is scorching. You can mix into salad dressings and marinades to give a sweet acidic taste unique to dalandan.

It serves 2 Prep Time 5 minutes.

2 cups fresh dalandan juice
2 cups crushed ice
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves
1 Place all ingredients in a blender and blend well. Serve
immediately.

Tip: Calamansi also works well for this shake. Just triple the
sugar in the recipe.
