You surely can’t go directly to your hometown from a Cebu trip without buying any “pasalubong”. I have here a quick list of the delights of Cebu and the best buy from this beautiful Queen City of the South.

Dried Mango: The world-renowned delicacy from Cebu has been imitated by other countries, but I think dried Philippine mango is even sweeter. It has been exported overseas and is still gaining popularity in foreign markets.

Masareal. This one’s for the sweet tooth. Its like the other Pinoy delicacy, panutsa, the round flat peanut candy, differing only in form. Masareal is made from finely ground peanut-shaped sugar syrup into rectangular bars.

OTAP. This sugar sprinkled cookies is something light and not to sweet that you can eat a couple pieces to satisfy your hunger. If you want a good buy, try to Shamrock otap.

Ampao: This dishes is famous in Carcar City, Cebu and is the local version of puffed rice are bind by the sugar syrup and formed into thick bars.

Salvaro. Another dishes that so in Pinoy flavor. It is made of shredded coconut on top of a very thin biscuit.

Rosquillos. These are ring cookies. Very light but sweet and fun to eat. Children will surely enjoy eating this.

Danggit. This should be deep fried to achieve that crispiness. For a more delicious danggit experience, dip it in vinegar with chile and garlic.

Chicharon: Chicharon is made of pork skin which is deep fried. Carcar City is well known for the quality of the chicharon they make.

Passers by whether locals or tourists are offered samples by retailers of their chicharon which is cooked fresh daily.

So on your next trip to Cebu, don’t forget to buy any of these Cebu delicacies!
