A Harry but not Prince Harry

By admin On April 30, 2009 No Comments

A LOOKALIKE of Prince Harry of Wales has caused quite a stir in the town of Dumanjug, where the young man has joined volunteers repainting and fixing a public school.

Alas, southern lasses hoping that someday, their prince will come, will have to wait longer.

Asked whether the prince, nicknamed Harry, was indeed staying in his town, Dumanjug Mayor Cesar Baricuatro was at a loss. “Your guess,” said Baricuatro, “is as good as mine.”

“What happened was, when I was inspecting my projects yesterday (Tuesday), a teacher approached me and asked if I had time. She said that there would be a certain Erik Santos who would visit me, with Prince Harry,” said Baricuatro.

Santos, coordinator of the Lantaka Youth Club, arrived with the mystery guest at the municipal hall Tuesday afternoon for a courtesy call on the mayor.

“I asked how to address him, thinking if I should call him ‘Your Highness’ or ‘Your

At least 7 hospitalized in US with swine flu

By admin On April 28, 2009 No Comments

NEW YORK – At least seven people were in U.S. hospitals with swine flu as the number of cases nationwide rose to 64 on Tuesday and a federal health official warned that deaths were likely.

Most of the nation’s confirmed cases were in New York City, where the health commissioner said “many hundreds” of schoolchildren were ill with what was “most likely swine flu.” The city announced 44 confirmed cases, all affiliated with a Catholic high school.

Richard Besser, acting director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, noted that although ordinary human flu accounts for 36,000 deaths every year, he was concerned by this strain.

“I fully expect we will see deaths from this infection,” Besser said at an Atlanta news conference.

He said he did not know about a newspaper report of two deaths in two southern California hospitals in which the victims appeared to have suffered

What you need to know about swine flu

By admin On April 28, 2009 No Comments

A never-before-seen strain of swine flu has turned killer in Mexico and is causing milder illness in the United States and elsewhere. While authorities say it’s not time to panic, they are taking steps to stem the spread and also urging people to pay close attention to the latest health warnings and take their own precautions.

“Individuals have a key role to play,” Dr. Richard Besser, acting chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Monday.

Here’s what you need to know:

Q: How do I protect myself and my family?

A: For now, take commonsense precautions. Cover your coughs and sneezes, with a tissue that you throw away or by sneezing into your elbow rather than your hand. Wash hands frequently; if soap and water aren’t available, hand gels can substitute. Stay home if you’re sick and keep children home from school if they are.

Q: How easy is

Maui Taylor admits to cosmetic enhancements

By admin On April 24, 2009 No Comments

Sexy actress Maui Taylor, who bared much of her body in movies like “Hibla” and men’s magazines like FHM, now bares the key anatomical parts that she had cosmetically enhanced.

Her nose, chin, breasts, and tummy had undergone some retouching, the April 2002 FHM cover babe admitted while strapped to a lie detector in Sunday’s “Showbiz Central,” under questioning of John Lapus in the “Don’t Lie To Me” segment of the weekly entertainment show.

She’s had some problem with her nose job that has been corrected.

“Ang laman na lang talaga ng ilong ko is yung tip na lang. So it’s the cartilage from my ear. So yung bridge ko ngayon, it’s natural already,” Taylor said.

["What my nose has at the tip is some cartilage from my ear. So my bridge is now natural."]

Her chin – firmed up to give her roundish face more definition – also needs regular maintenance.

“Pinadagdagan

No rape CA’s women justices reverse Cpl. Smith conviction

By admin On April 24, 2009 No Comments

Lance Cpl. Daniel Smith, the US marine convicted in December 2006 by a lower court of raping a Filipina in Subic, was acquitted ironically by the women justices of the Philippine’s Court of Appeals Thursday.

“Wherefore, on reasonable ground, the accused Lance Corporal Daniel Smith is hereby acquitted of the crime of rape as alleged in the information,” said the appellate court in its 71-page decision.

The ruling, penned by Associate Justice Monina Arevalo-Zenarosa of the CA’s Special Eleventh Division, reversed and set aside the decision of the Makati Regional Trial Court on December 4, 2006. The Makati-RTC’s decision made Smith the first-ever American military personnel convicted of committing crime on Philippine soil.

Concurring with the CA decision were two other female magistrates, Remedios Salazar-Fernando and Myrna Dimaranan-Vidal.

Not rape, just a romantic episode

The CA likewise ordered Smith’s immediate release from detention unless there is another case filed against him. Smith is currently being
