Chat Rooms What Should I Know About Them?

By admin On March 29, 2009 1 Comment

“Being shy, I can go into a chat room online and talk with people I normally would not talk to. They have no idea who I am.”—Peter.*“In a chat room, you have the feeling that you can say whatever you want.”—Abigail.

CHAT ROOMS are “areas” on the Internet where users can have live, two-way conversations via text messages. Chat rooms can accommodate large numbers of people, who can read and respond to each other’s messages.

Some chat rooms are particularly appealing to youthful Internet users. Millions of young people from a variety of cultures exchange opinions daily on almost any subject. Some schools now tap this global resource. For example, with their teacher’s supervision, students in the United States might discuss social issues with fellow students in Spain, England, or elsewhere. Students may even chat about their class project with a qualified engineer, chemist, or another expert.

Thai fireman in ’spider-man’ rescue of autistic boy

By admin On March 24, 2009 No Comments

BANGKOK (AFP) – A Thai fireman turned superhero when he dressed up as comic-book character Spider-Man to coax a frightened eight-year-old from a balcony, police said Tuesday.

Teachers at a special needs school in Bangkok alerted authorities on Monday when an autistic pupil, scared of attending his first day at school, sat out on the third-floor ledge and refused to come inside, a police sergeant told AFP.

Despite teachers’ efforts to beckon the boy inside, he refused to budge until his mother mentioned her son’s love of superheroes, prompting fireman Sonchai Yoosabai to take a novel approach to the problem.

The rescuer dashed back to his fire station and made a quick change into a Spider-Man costume before returning to the boy, he said.

“I told him Spider-Man is here to rescue you, no monsters are going to attack you and I told him to walk slowly towards me as running

The Guitar What Goes In Is What Comes Out

By admin On March 18, 2009 No Comments

ANDRÉS Segovia, Carlos Montoya, and Chet Atkins are names known to millions of people worldwide. What do they have in common? They have entertained audiences by playing a fragile, wooden, stringed instrument—the guitar.

The sound of the guitar is heard around the earth, played by amateur and professional alike. One of those responsible for its increased respect is the late Spanish concert guitarist Andrés Segovia, who took the guitar out of obscurity and turned it into a classical concert instrument.

Why is the guitar so popular? Possibly because its sound, whether in the flamenco, classical, or modern style, evokes differing moods. Yet another factor is that it is so easy to carry.

Whatever may be the reasons for its popularity, the way a guitar is constructed makes a big difference in the sound. The best guitars are usually created with great love and care by a person commonly known as a luthier.
