Overcoming Failure and Defeat

By admin On January 17, 2009 No Comments

Inspirational and Motivation: A nice article i found, i would like to share with you.

The most humbling, ego-deflating and destructive experience one could ever have is to fail, to be defeated on anything, be it in sports, in love, on a project, in school or in life in general.

At that lowest ebb of life, the feeling is that of hopelessness and despair. Discouragement creeps up on you giving you that lugubrious feeling of doom and gloom.

After the initial impact of shock and devastation, two completely opposite feelings appear on the horizon of life, each with an agenda that will define your future.

First, is that ever-inviting feeling of resignation and rationalization. We start to believe the lie that “it is really not that bad,” after all 95% of the people fail.

The second is an absolute opposite feeling of vengeance and like a wounded tiger, want

Circuit City, R.I.P.

By admin On January 16, 2009 No Comments

The troubled 60-year-old electronics chain tried its best to survive bankruptcy, but to no avail; now, it will liquidate its merchandise and close all 567 remaining stores.

Bloomberg reports that Circuit City Stores Inc. has hired a quartet of liquidators to sell off its existing merchandise, pending a green light from the courts. If everything goes according to plan, the fire sale will start Saturday and continue through the end of March, according to CNNMoney.com.

And unfortunately for Circuit City’s 30,000+ employees, unemployment awaits.

The biggest consumer tech chain in the U.S. besides Best Buy, Circuit City filed for bankruptcy protection back in November. As Bloomberg notes, the struggling company had been looking for a buyer as late as Thursday, but failed to find any takers.

Of course, news of the Circuit City liquidation sale will draw plenty of bargain hunters, but (as I’ve blogged before), buyer beware.

Passengers in NY plane ordeal marvel they’re alive

By admin On January 16, 2009 No Comments

NEW YORK – Shock, relief, gratitude. Most of all, the soaked and freezing passengers of Flight 1549 just seemed amazed to be alive.

All of them.

“You’ve got to give it to the pilot,” said Jeff Kolodjay of Norwalk, Conn., who was aboard the US Airways jet that ditched in the frigid Hudson River after an apparent collision with a flock of birds. “He made a hell of a landing.”

“He was phenomenal,” echoed Joe Hart, of Long Island, a salesman with investment firm ING.

“He landed it — I tell you what — the impact wasn’t a whole lot more than a rear-end (collision). It threw you into the seat ahead of you. Both engines cut out, and he actually floated it into the river,” he added.

Hart said he waited out on the wing of the plane, with others, as the water level rose from his knee

It was facing a repayment of some $107 million in debts.

The company said in a statement it would seek creditor protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act in Canada and the US bankruptcy code’s Chapter 11.

“The company’s normal day-to-day operations are expected to continue without interruption,” Nortel said.

“Nortel remains 100 percent focused on serving customers worldwide through continued R&D (research and development) investments and support of its product portfolio to fulfill customer needs.”

Woman finds 139-year-old baseball card in box of antiques

By admin On January 9, 2009 No Comments

The strange story goes like this: Last summer, Bernice Gallego pulled an old baseball card from a box of antiques. She figured it might be worth something to someone, so she listed it on eBay.

The starting bid was $10.

But after getting a flurry of inquiries about whether the card was authentic or not, Gallego started to suspect she was holding something a little more valuable and immediately ended the auction.

Turns out her hunch was correct. She did have something more valuable. The card she found was made in 1869 and featured the “Red Stocking B.B. Club of Cincinnati,” the sport’s first professional team.  It’s considered one of the first baseball cards ever produced and its actual value could be worth more than $100,000 when she puts it back on eBay (with a higher starting price, of course).

Of course, the news that she had found
