3 oil firms cut prices of diesel, gasoline products
MANILA, Philippines - Independent oil firms Flying V, Seaoil, and UniOil Petroleum Philippines Inc (UPPI) announced on Wednesday a rollback on the prices of their diesel and gasoline.
A radio report said Flying V slashed on Wednesday noon the prices of their diesel and gasoline by P1 per liter.
The price reduction brought down the price of diesel to P30.97 per liter for public utility jeepneys and P31.97 for other motorists.
Meanwhile, UniOil will cut back on their diesel prices by P4 per liter starting 2 p.m. on Wednesday. On the prices of their gasoline, P5 to P7 will be slashed. Once the rollback is implemented, the prices of the different types of gasoline from UniOil will be sold between P31.37 and 31.99 per liter.
Seaoil, through its spokesman Rey Jimenez, said they would rollback the prices of their fuel products (gasoline, diesel, and kerosene) by P1 per liter also effective 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Eight rural banks stop operations — BSP
MANILA, Philippines – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Thursday announced that eight rural banks have declared bank holidays, three of which have been taken over by the state deposit insurer for inability to service withdrawals.
In a statement released last night, the BSP said Negros Oriental-based Rural Bank of Bais, Cebu-based Pilipino Rural Bank and Rural Bank of San Jose in Batangas have been placed Thursday under the receivership of the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC).
The receivership order meant the responsibility of recouping the bank’s unpaid loans has been transferred to the PDIC.
Another rural bank, the Rural Bank of Parañaque, was earlier reported to have been placed under receivership.
The BSP also said four other banks have been declared on holiday. Operations are temporarily suspended when a financial institution declares a bank holiday.

Senate witnesses urged: Be honest
Sen. Richard Gordon reminded those invited at today’s Senate hearing on the P728-million fertilizer fund scam to practice the virtue of honesty as they testify on what they know – and confess any alleged participation – in the anomaly.
“Our parents taught us about the virtue of honesty. I think this should remind us again that we have to be honest at all times. As we always say: Let us be honest even if others will not, even if others cannot, even if others do not,” Gordon said as the Senate Blue Ribbon committee resumes today its investigation into the fertilizer fund scam.
Former agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn Bolante, tagged as the main architect of the fertilizer anomaly, remains under Senate custody after he was cited for contempt for evading questions and giving false testimony during the past hearings. read full story
